Prerequisites

To ensure that students are prepared to benefit fully from this course, the following prerequisites are required:

  • Active participation in their local church, including regular attendance at Kidase (Holy Liturgy), Sunday School, or youth programs

  • Basic familiarity with Bible stories and books, especially the life of Christ and the Apostolic teaching

  • Willingness to participate respectfully in an online learning environment, including discussions, reflections, and short assignments

This course builds upon lived church experience and worship, not abstract theory.

Required Materials

Students must have access to the following throughout the course:

  • The Holy Bible (Orthodox-approved, age-appropriate translation)

  • A personal notebook (physical or digital) for:

    • Weekly reflections

    • Key definitions and diagrams

    • Guided discussion responses and review notes

Course Description

This 16-week online program is designed for students ages 9–14 and begins with a structured revision of the Five Pillars of Mystery, forming a solid doctrinal foundation for understanding Kidase (Holy Liturgy) and the Sacred Traditions of the Orthodox Church.

The course opens by revisiting and strengthening students’ understanding of the Five Pillars of Orthodox Faith, ensuring that all participants share a common theological foundation before moving deeper into meaning, worship, and application.

The Five Pillars of Mystery covered throughout the course are:

  1. The Holy Trinity – One God in Three Persons

  2. The Incarnation – God the Word becoming man for our salvation

  3. Baptism – New birth and entry into the Body of Christ

  4. Holy Communion – Union with Christ through His Body and Blood

  5. The Resurrection of the Dead – Our hope of eternal life

Students will learn how each pillar is:

  • Rooted in Holy Scripture

  • Expressed and lived in Kidase (Holy Liturgy)

  • Preserved through Sacred Tradition

  • Practiced in daily Orthodox Christian life
