Schedule: Every Tuesday at 8:00 PM ET
Start Date: October 20, 2026
Age Group: 14+

Why did our Lord Jesus Christ teach in parables? What spiritual mysteries are hidden within these seemingly simple stories? And how can teachings spoken over two thousand years ago continue to challenge, transform, and guide our lives today?
The parables of Jesus Christ are more than moral stories; they are divine teachings that reveal the mysteries of the Kingdom of Heaven, expose the condition of the human heart, and call us toward repentance, humility, forgiveness, and salvation.
In this course, we will explore the major parables of our Lord Jesus Christ through the theological interpretations, commentaries, and homilies of Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo scholars and the Early Church Fathers, including St. John Chrysostom, St. Cyril of Alexandria, St. Ephrem the Syrian, and other patristic teachers.
Drawing upon the rich tradition of Ethiopian Orthodox biblical interpretation, particularly the Andemta (አንድም) commentary tradition, students will discover the deeper spiritual meanings of Christ's words, their historical and biblical contexts, and their relevance to the struggles of modern Christian life.
From the Parable of the Sower to the Prodigal Son, from the Good Samaritan to the Ten Virgins, each lesson will encourage us to move beyond merely hearing the Word of God toward understanding, practicing, and living it.
Our goal is not simply to understand what Christ said, but to discover why He said it, what He reveals about us, and how His words must transform the way we live.
The Mysteries of the Kingdom: Understanding why Christ spoke in parables and what they reveal about salvation.
The Condition of the Human Heart: Examining faith, repentance, pride, humility, and spiritual growth.
The Teachings of the Church Fathers: Studying patristic homilies and Ethiopian Orthodox biblical commentaries.
The Christian Life: Applying the parables to relationships, temptations, forgiveness, prayer, and daily struggles.
Judgment and Eternal Life: Understanding Christ's warnings concerning spiritual vigilance, accountability, and preparation for His Second Coming.
By the end of this course, students will develop a deeper understanding of Christ's parables through Scripture, Orthodox theology, and patristic interpretation. More importantly, they will be challenged to examine their own lives in light of these teachings and cultivate a faith that is not only heard and understood, but faithfully practiced.
“He who has ears to hear, let him hear!” — Matthew 13:9
Come not merely to hear the parables, but to discover what the Lord is saying to you through them.
